In registering to be a volunteer, you may be called upon to work at immunization center, a dispensing site at a school, work with victims or assist with the supply system that would support the many hospitals or disaster center. You may not think you have many of the skills our region would need in an emergency. In addition to doctors, nurses, EMS and other medical personnel; we would need drivers to deliver materials, administrators to fill out forms, people to assist in crowd control, answer telephone calls, people with basic computer skills (data entry), personnel to run video equipment, just to name a few. If an event happens, you will be contacted by your local Emergency Management office or personnel from the Regional Counterterrorism Task Force with instructions. In addition, you may receive information or requests to participate in exercises, drills or training events that would better prepare you and your community for disasters. Should a major disaster strike our area, the Strategic Nation Stockpile may get deployed. The SNS is a national repository of antibiotics, chemical antidotes, antitoxins, life-support medications, IV administration, airway maintenance supplies, and medical/surgical items. The SNS is designed to supplement and re-supply state and local public health agencies in the event of a national emergency anywhere and at anytime within the U.S. or its territories. For more information on the SNS, please go to http://www.bt.cdc.gov/stockpile/index.asp. Thank you for volunteering, we all hope and pray that we will never need to activate the volunteer list and call you, but we all need to prepare. Thank you again.
